Flag

The Jamaican flag is a tri-color flag of gold, black, and green. It has a gold diagonal cross, or saltire, that divides the flag into four black and green triangles. In 1962, the flag was adopted the day it gained independence from the British empire. The flag was designed by a bipartisan committee of the Jamaican House of Representatives to show how “the sun shineth, the land is green, and the people are strong and creative”. In other terms, the gold cross/saltire symbolizes the sun and the nation’s riches, the green triangles at the top and bottom depict the agriculture and scenery of this tropical island, while the black triangles on the sides signify the creativity and resilience of the Jamaican populace.. This flag serves significance in the country as it represents important parts of the island.
